Chislehurst Lawn Tennis Club was formed some 40 years ago by some keen local players to prevent the council-run courts being turned into a car park. One founder-member is still with the club, now as Chairman and still playing regularly for the mens and mixed doubles North Kent League teams, and also keen to cement the club’s links with the local community.
There are four hard courts, which were spray-cleaned and re-painted in the Summer of 2014, and a brick-built clubhouse with kitchen and toilet facilities to provide shelter and a social setting for members and visiting teams. The club competes in the North Kent League, with teams in the Ladies, Mens, Mixed and Midweek Mixed Veterans sections, while junior players coming through the coaching sessions supervised by Director of Coaching Matthew Brolly, play in in teams in the Aegon County League.
The club has Social Play sessions on Sunday and Wednesday mornings from 10am to midday, where members of all standards join in and visitors and potential new members are welcome to attend a free trial session.
While team-squad players have their practice on two courts on Saturday mornings, 9am to 11am year-round and from 6.30pm until dusk on Summer Monday evenings, Junior coaching sessions occupy two courts from 9am until 3pm each Saturday during school term-time, with after-school sessions from 3.45pm and Junior Coaching Camps during school holidays.
Communication with members is made via e-mail newsletters along with a Facebook page for Chislehurst Tennis and a Twitter account at Chislehurst LTC. New members of all playing standards are always welcome, and the Ladies team captain is particularly seeking new recruits for her squad!
