Shaon is the Bengali name for that tranquil time of year between the harvest and the rains – a time to relax and enjoy the fruits of the earth. Now, at Shaon restaurant, you can experience the lazy pleasures of this season in comfortable premises on Chislehurst high Street.
Owner Abdul welcome’s you into the warm ambience of his restaurant, a place of understated elegance and style, where you will enjoy a meal that is a rare fusion of traditional Bengali cuisine and the sophisticated techniques of Continental cooking.
Every morning Abdul, who trained at some of the great Indian restaurants in London, will be in the kitchen, overseeing the creation of dishes, and himself preparing the blends, spices and sauces that are a feature of the food served here – exotic Bengali cookery prepared with a subtlety and sensitivity to flavour, that mark this restaurant out from the ordinary.
Since its opening, Shaon has gained a growing number of loyal and regular customers, and has steadily built a reputation for fine food. Thanks to its talented and dedicated staff, it was given the Restaurant of the year award by the London Borough of Bromley in 2003
Champion Chef Lutfur Rahman learned his skills in Bangladesh, in the kitchens of the Sheraton Hotel, Dhaka, and perfected them in Brick Lane – internationally renowned as a centre for great Bengali cooking – where he has been one of the stars of the Brick Lane Food Festival.
