Community events to raise money for St Nicks School
Raise the Roof is a recently launched community campaign to fund the enhancement of facilities at St Nicholas Primary School.
The money will be raised through a programme of community events organised by local volunteers. Tickets for these events are available to buy online via Visit Chislehurst.
The aim of Raise the Roof is to broaden and enrich educational experiences at St Nicks by providing more teaching areas – specifically a brand new creative learning studio, fully equipped with the latest technology for teaching the arts, IT and science. At present, the school is restricted by the limitations of the current building which was originally designed for half the number of pupils now attending.
The driving force behind Raise the Roof was Donna Bompas, a local art teacher and long-serving governor of the school. Donna, who recently passed away, was a champion of our community and passionate about bringing people together to have fun and at the same time, to raise money for local causes.
Donna is known for events such as the Queen’s Tea Party, Jubilee Picnic, The Chislehurst Big Draw and the Open Air Cinema. She loved teaching art and working with children and was committed to ensuring that St Nicks School continues to serve its pupils and the wider community with the best possible opportunities for creativity and learning.
Much of the cost for the renovation work will be covered by the Aquinas Church of England Education Trust (incorporating funds held by the school). However, with only limited reserves and responsibility for 10 different schools, Aquinas is unable to fund the building work in its entirety, hence the need for a fundraising campaign.
Raise the Roof seeks to raise £130k to reconfigure the school layout and refurbish the new rooms. Further details are available via the Raise the Roof website at www.raisetheroof.xyz
