What a day!  And, only in Chislehurst could a day like this be had!  The sun shone, the cars gleamed, tails wagged on dogs, and there were smiles on faces, this was Chislehurst at its absolute best! The Chislehurst Car Show had motored back into town for a second year and it was a spectacular day of motoring!

From 7.30 there was the distance hum of throaty engines coming through the woods and cars starting to line up ready to be parked up in the High Street and on the Commons. The volunteers were continually surprised by what appeared each time – 1980’s XR2, an American School bus, a McLaren, a 1966 Ford Mustang, the cars just kept coming and all of them such beauties in such pristine condition.  Everyone took their time lining up, reversing into place and getting settled for the day.

Some spectators snuck in early for a sneaky peak, we knew they would, who could possible resist, especially with the sound of some of those engines calling, and the coffee bars open in the High Street, of course!  The sun was high in the sky and Chislehurst looked its absolute best.

Fairground rides for children, a bar for grown ups, and motors as far as the eye could see!

The judging on the day was incredibly hard, and the judges spent a long time working through the cars. The winning cars are on the day were:

Cool Britannia                    – Aston Martin DB4

Le Dolce Vita                      – Ferrari 308 GT4

Best Interior                       – Lotus Elite

Wonderful Workhorses – Bedford truck

Deutsche Marques          – Porsche 911 Turbo (930 Turbo, black)

Judge’s pick                        – Cadillac, 1903 model

Family favourites              – Morris Minor Traveller

Wind in the Hair                – Alvis open top

Stars ‘n Stripes                  – Cadillac Sedan DeVille (I think!! It was the huge open top white car by the pond)

Land of the Rising Sun    – Mazda RX3

Turbotastic                         – Renault 5 GT Turbo (red)

Hot Wheels                         – Lamborghini Aventador

We had some amazing feedback on the day from people who were having such a wonderful time, one of whom said it was the best event Chislehurst had ever run!    This is only possible with a huge amount of thanks firstly to an anonymous sponsor, Lollipop Events, The Chislehurst Commons, the Visit Chislehurst team for their dedicated time and then for the wider group of volunteers who have given their time and endless enthusiasm to this event – we are so very grateful.
